Aspose offers a free Word plugin that allows you to save Word 2007 files as ePub files. You have to register to download it, but registration is free. I took a simple file and tried it out. It produced an ePub, but I couldn’t adjust the font size using my Sony eReader software. Still, this could be a great starting point for creating ePubs from Word.
Note that you do have to format your Word file to produce a decent ePub file. For example, if you want a table of contents with active links, you’ll have to first create one in Word. Want the text left-justified in the ePub? Then you have to left justify the text in Word. In other words, if you created your Word document with no thought to converting it to ePub, you’ll have some work to do before you get a decent ePub using this plugin. But that will be true of any automated conversion tool you use.
See the ePub category for other posts about converting Word files to ePub files.
