Amazon has kicked off the new year by introducing a new embed feature for Kindle books. Now you can embed the Kindle sample right on your website. In addition to reading the sample in the widget, readers have the option of reading the sample full screen or downloading it to their Kindles.
Another cool feature is that when a user clicks on the link to go to the Amazon sales page, they’ll be taken to the Amazon store appropriate for their country. I know some people don’t like this, but it’s convenient for others.
Rather than embedding the sample, you can also just provide a link to it. I like the reading experience better when going through the link. Going full screen when reading the embedded sample results in the same experience, but getting there is an extra step. I’ll probably use the link when I update my book pages to include this feature.
Instructions for how to embed samples (or provide links to them) are here: http://www.amazon.com/b?ie=UTF8&node=13489836011&tag=viglink20273-20
Here’s the embed view for my time travel romance Threaded Through Time. Underneath it is a link to the sample, so you can compare the two experiences.
This is a great way to introduce readers to your writing. I’ve tried excerpts on book pages before and they didn’t seem to make a difference, but there was no way for people to send the excerpts to their Kindles. Now they’ll be able to.
